Blue chalcedony gets its milky colour from fine quartz fibres that scatter light. It is a pale powder blue, milky and translucent, kept cool by silver. Here a smooth blue chalcedony bead swings from a large flat-wire silver hoop whose hook loops through an eye behind the ear, so the circle closes and stays closed.
