Garnet takes its name from the Latin for pomegranate seed, and it has been worn since the Bronze Age. Deep bordeaux, a wine red, with facets readable close up. Here a round rose-cut garnet sits in a formed gold collet, its faceted dome rising above the rim, and the shallow facets turn the red into small planes of light.

Reach for it when you want red without a setting to compete with it. Face on it is a bordeaux disc in a fine gold rim, and from a distance it settles to a dark point. Bordeaux, plainly framed.

Garnet is a warm red that sits closest to warm or olive skin and picks up brown, hazel and dark eyes, where it reads as a deeper note of the same warmth. Dark brown, auburn and black hair hold the colour best.
