Carnelian Cushion-Cut Drop Earrings · Gold

Carnelian was the signet stone of Rome because hot wax does not stick to it. It is a warm burnt orange, amber-toned, translucent, with light in it. Here a brushed gold square holds the lobe and a large cushion-cut carnelian hangs below on a jump ring, faceted on both faces.

Reach for it when you want a stone big enough to see from across the table. It hangs clear of the jaw and swings as you move. Burnt orange, squared and generous.

• Burnt orange that lifts navy and denim
• Large stone that reads across a room
• Smooth push-back post, no clasp to fiddle with

Handcrafted by master silversmiths in Protsaah's own workshop in Jaipur, where every maker is paid 30 to 40% above the local market rate.

Carnelian is a warm orange that sits closest to warm or olive skin and picks up brown and hazel eyes, where it reads as a brighter note of the same warmth. Dark and auburn hair hold the colour best.

For cool or fair tones, iolite or amazonite in the same cushion-cut drop gives the same presence in a cooler key. Not sure? Write to us at hello@protsaah.com and Salonie will recommend your stone personally.
