Labradorite takes its name from Labrador, where Moravian missionaries recorded it in 1770. Its flash comes from light bending between thin layers inside the crystal, and in silver the stone reads darker, closer to slate. Here a round rose-cut labradorite sits in a formed silver collet, its faceted dome rising above the rim, so grey stone and cool metal read as one piece.

Reach for it when you want one grey that does everything. Face on it is slate in a silver rim, and the blue flash comes and goes as you move, so it never reads flat. Slate, with a blue pulse.

Labradorite is a neutral stone, so it sits well on most skin tones and picks up hazel, grey and green eyes, where the blue flash reads as an echo of the iris. In silver the whole pairing runs cool, which suits ash blonde, silver and cool brunette hair best.
