Jade has been carved in China for five thousand years, and nephrite was the stone of the imperial workshops. It is a pale apple green, mottled with lighter cloudy patches, with a waxy lustre. Here a smooth nephrite jade bead hangs on a jump ring from a slim gold huggie that clicks shut, so the hoop hugs the lobe and the bead swings below.
