Carnelian was the signet stone of Rome because hot wax does not stick to it, and Egyptian goldsmiths set it for its clear warm colour at a small size. Translucent, so daylight passes into the facets rather than resting on them. Here it sits in a multi-prong gold crown, pierced into small arches under a beaded rim, a warm burnt orange with light in it.

Reach for it when you want warmth without a statement. A warm burnt orange, amber-toned, and with the gold around it the whole stud runs warm, so it lifts navy, denim and every neutral. Small stone, full colour.

Carnelian's warm amber tone sits closest to warm or olive skin and picks up brown and hazel eyes, where the orange reads as an extension of the eye colour rather than a contrast. Dark or auburn hair frames it best.
