Onyx takes its name from the Greek word for fingernail, and Roman carvers cut it for cameos. Green onyx is bottle green with a lighter heart. Here a brushed gold square holds the lobe and a large cushion-cut green onyx hangs below on a jump ring, faceted on both faces.

Green onyx is a deep, cool green that suits cool or neutral skin and picks up green, hazel and grey eyes, where it deepens the colour rather than matching it. Dark brown and cool brunette hair give it the contrast it needs.
